Determination of a Rate Law Lab Report

Assurance of a Rate Law Megan Gilleland 10. 11. 2012 Dr. Charles J. Horn Abstract: This two section analyze is intended to decide the rate law of the accompanying response, 2I-(aq) + H2O2(aq) + 2H+I2(aq) + 2H2O(L), and to then decide whether an adjustment in temperature affects that pace of this response. It was discovered that the response rate=k[I-]^1[H2O2+]^1, and the trial actuation vitality is 60. 62 KJ/mol. Presentation The pace of a substance response regularly relies upon reactant focuses, temperature, and if there’s nearness of a catalyst. The pace of response for this analysis can be dictated by breaking down the measure of iodine (I2) framed. Two concoction responses are helpful to deciding the measure of iodine is created. 1) I2(aq) + 2S2O32-(aq) 2I-(aq)+S4O62-(aq) 2) I2(aq) + starch Reaction 2 is utilized possibly to decide when the creation of iodine is happening by turning an unmistakable dreary answer for a blue shading. Without this response it would be extreme ly hard to decide how much iodine is being created, because of how rapidly thiosulfate and iodine respond. Related article: Measuring Reaction Rate Using Volume of Gas Produced Lab AnswersHowever this response doesn't decide the measure of iodine delivered, it possibly decides when/if iodine is available in arrangement. Response 1 is utilized to decide how much iodine is created. To see how the rate steady (k) is temperature reliant, another arrangement of information is recorded in week two’s investigation utilizing six preliminaries and three diverse temperatures(two preliminaries for each temperature change). Utilizing the diagram of this information we decide the vitality required to twist of stretch the reactant atoms to where bonds can break or structure, and afterward collect items (Activation Energy, Ea).Methods To play out the investigation for week 1, we initially get ready two arrangements, An and B, as appeared in the information. Subsequent to setting up the blends, we combine them in a jar and cautiously watch the arrangement, while timing, to perceive to what extent it takes for the answer for change from clear to blue. We utilize this strategy for every one of the 5 preliminaries, and record the time it takes to change shading, showing the response has occurred completely. This information is utilized to discover p (trials1-3) and q (trials3-5), to use in our rate law. This test inferred that both p and q are first order. The rate consistent normal of every one of the five preliminaries is utilized as only one point on the Arrhenius Plot. In week 2, we play out the test to test the connection of temperature to the pace of response. We start by once more, getting ready six arrangements. We arranged two preliminaries/arrangements at 0 degrees Celsius, two and 40 degrees Celsius, and two at 30 degrees Celsius. Once more, for every preliminary we blended arrangement A with B, and painstakingly planned the response to search for a shading change that demonstrates the response is finished. The understanding of this information showed out consequences of whether temperature affects the pace of this reaction.Results-It is resolved that the pace of response is reliant on the temperature in which the response happens. The arrangements saw at 40 degrees Celsius responded at a snappier rate, than those at lesser temperatures, in a direct estate. To Find the Activation Energy we increase by the rate consistent of 8. 314J/mol(K), which rises to - 60617. 4 J/mol. We at that point convert this incentive to kilojoules by isolating by 1000, rising to 60. 62 kJ/mol. Investigation vulnerability Due to the furthest reaches of critical figures in stock arrangements utilized, the subsequent information is constrained in rightness. Additionally, temperature variances during the analysis by even a half degree would cloud the information of the specific rate steady, k. One of our R^2 coefficients for the examination was in reality more prominent than 0. , and the other marginally under 0. 9 importance the one lesser isn't viewed as a solid match. The deviation in integrity of fit may have been because of our information recording. Conversation Determination of the rate law and initiation vitality of a synthetic response requires a couple of steps. By changing the convergences of reactants it was resolved that the response is first reques t regarding both [I-] and [H2O2+]. Estimating the response rate at various temperatures permits figuring of the actuation vitality of the procedure, for this situation the initiation vitality of the response is seen as 60. 2 kJ/mol. As you have seen through all the past information, diagrams and charts, this exothermic pace of a response is subject to arrangement fixations, an impetus, and temperature. First They Killed My Father free essay sample

First They Killed My Father First They Killed My Father shows that when individuals live in steady dread they start to live just for themselves. Talk about, the consistent dread, which is depicted by the Ung family, is one which would push any individual who encountered this to just fight for themselves, as it is the best way to endure. Human versatility is plainly appeared in the content through Pas sense to turn out to be cordial with the boss and the base individuals, which is a wellspring of acquiring enough nourishment for his family. The guardians of youngsters get that if the young ladies are not sent away the officers will have their way with them, regardless, and if the young fellows are not sent away they will be commandingly recruited into the Angkar armed force. Thusly the guardians are unselfishly helping their posterity to endure, while setting their own lives in danger. We will compose a custom article test on First They Killed My Father or on the other hand any comparable point explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page The greatest standard that the Angkar uphold is that anything that you own, is the communitys too. To endure, this standard should be broken, as there isn't sufficient food Mama and Pa weighed up the choices and concluded that they could see a future in their kids and hence relinquished themselves to give their own fragile living creature and blood an opportunity in the large, wide world. As the wellspring of food, dwindled Ma turned out to be progressively restless and careless as she continued looking for additional pabulum. People are constrained to seek after endurance, it is a definitive, and we need all the assistance of others to acquire this objective. She was too careless to even think about noticing she had strolled straightforwardly into a snare. Everybody understands this and knows to conceal any additional food they may have. That is the way starvation will dazzle you and control your musings and driving forces. This isn't not normal for guardians these days relinquishing numerous benefits just to furnish their descendants with an amazing, unmistakable instruction. Dad comprehended the way that influence hungry pioneers worked, he realized that cash, gems and avarice would make things happen and permit him additional food. Mama and Pa appreciate this as they power Khouy to wed early and without wanting to. The tale First They Killed My Father gives proof, which infers that the sentiments of an individual are the main factor while closing on your endurance. The Angkar endeavored this controlled condition. Who of us has really needed to do this in a firmly controlled, obscure condition? The world, as we probably am aware it, might be requested yet is a controlled domain. Khouy can't see that on the off chance that he doesnt wed, at that point the Angkar will recruit him to battle the Vietnamese. Mama realized this too so she sent her child to wed a young lady from another town and in spite of the fact that they moved to another inhumane imprisonment she realized her child would be protected. I pick this statement from the book since I think its ground-breaking yet tragic, Their dark pajama garments are drenched with blood, pee, defecation, and little white issue. The officers remain behind the new gathering of detainees, calmly smoking a cigarette with one hand, while different clutches a major mallet with clusters of hair staying on its head. Pg-106 this indicated in spite of the fact that the warriors did this they didn’t reconsider at all to how the individuals would feel and didn’t care what befell them at any rate. First They Killed My Father free paper test First They Killed my Father In Phnom Penh a young lady named Loung and her family needed to abandon everything in light of the Khmer Rouge troopers. Loung Ung composed a book of her life in Cambodia and three topics for the book are disarray, torment, and expectation. This book is called First They Killed My Father and the tune I picked that goes with the book is called Gone too early by Daughtry. For the melody I pick three sections from the book. The parts incorporate when Loung had recollections of when she was close to nothing and had to leave her home, when Keav passes on and Loung misses her, lastly when Loung loses her mom. Loung and her family were making the most of their time until the troopers came and made them abandon everything and deserting bliss, and their rich lives. Loung and her kin were playing and their mom and father were pressing and everyone’s grins transformed into scowls. We will compose a custom paper test on First They Killed My Father or on the other hand any comparative theme explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page â€Å"Not a day passes by/I’m continually asking why† (Daughtry). This is the verse that I felt coordinated with this piece of the story. â€Å"What’s going on? Where is everybody going? Where have you been? (Ung 19). My first component is disarray. Loung is asking her Ma and Pa every one of these inquiries and nobody will clarify anything, so everybody is befuddled. Everybody is leaving and strolling by walking to places where they don’t know. The territory of cooperation is ways to deal with learning since his is the place she realizes where things will change until further notice on. In any case, this isn't all the catastrophes and feelings that occur. â€Å"Today could have been the following day of the remainder of your life†(Daughtry). â€Å"She won't live; she won't make it† (Ung 97). Everyone passes on, yet individuals in Cambodia would kick the bucket of ailment, starvation, or pass on a murdered demise. This part is the place Keav is passing on from something she ate. Loung Ung and her family are feeling torment. This is the primary relative who bites the dust and it is an awful. She would have never kicked the bucket at such a youthful on the off chance that he Khmer Rouge didn’t power all teenagers to work for fighters. The zone of connection is wellbeing and social. It is wellbeing and social in light of the fact that Keav’s wellbeing is downright awful from starvation and something she ate. This verse matches with this piece of the story by how it clarifies how Keav could of lived for an extremely prolonged stretch of time. So far Loung has had recollections about how her life initially started to deteriorate, and when her first family passed on. â€Å"Everybody was giggling/rather I simply stay here and cry† (Daughtry). â€Å"Ma where are you! Mama you can’t do this to me! ( Ung 160) Depression is hard and it can go for quite a while particularly on the off chance that you are in Loung’s family. Mama was removed and Loung was crying and going over all that she experienced. The zone of communication is wellbeing and social in light of the fact that Loung is managing her affections for her family. She is yearning for everything to be how it was. This verse coordinates this part since she is weeping for her life and being harmed while everybody is being ordinary. This is the place the subject is misery. She is continually going to be terrified forever in view of the passings of Geak, Ma, Pa, and Keav. There is agony, misery, and disarray for the components in this story. A terrible life for Loung Ung and the battles she has experienced. She may never feel a similar way. There are such a significant number of tunes, and statements from the book that touch your heart.

Five Forces Analysis: Leisure, Tourism and Hospitality Industry

Five Forces Analysis: Leisure, Tourism and Hospitality Industry The travel industry, Leisure and Hospitality industry is characterized, not as far as the creation of exceptional kinds of products and enterprises, yet as far as the conditions at which merchandise and ventures are expended. Consequently, the offer of a specific decent or administration to a vacationer is visitor consumption. Because of this distinction in idea, this industry covers the typical arrangement of the businesses characterized by the products or administrations they produce (Luck Lancaster, 2003) This examination paper dissects the travel industry, Leisure and Hospitality industry basing on the monetary investigation instruments by Porter, Porter (1980) recommended that organizations profit by the comprehension of the powers which drive rivalry and the gainfulness in their industry, and he determines that all organizations ought to expressly define a sort of contender system. (Matthews, 2000) so as to comprehend the opposition, a serious examination ought to be attempted. The Porters model is additionally alluded to as the five powers serious examination. For the most part the travel industry, Leisure and Hospitality industry has a special business condition which influences all the contenders. As per Porter, five large scale factors that impact the business can be recognized according to rivalry; (1) The bartering intensity of the clients (purchasers). This power shows the quality in the haggling position, especially the value, which the purchasers have over their providers. (2) The haggling intensity of the providers. The Suppliers, including the representatives, impacts the appeal and the gainfulness of the area by expanding the costs (or the wages) accordingly expanding the modern expenses and diminishing the net revenues. Ground-breaking providers are the associations which control the gracefully of products and ventures to the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality industry. (3) The danger from the new contestants. The danger from the new contestants is needy upon the obstructions to passage into the business. This depends on the capa city to create the economies of scale and experience, the open doors for the item separation, the measure of capital which is required to get tied up with the business, and access the dissemination channels. In the travel industry, Leisure and Hospitality, there are low boundaries to the passage in many areas. (4) The danger of the substitutes. The Substitute ventures which give the contending item offers that play out a similar capacity. The Continual headway in the innovation continues changing the potential danger from the substitute items. For example, the quick advancement of the video-conferencing is a substitute item for the lodging gatherings. Presentation The Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality industry is a recognizable and broadly significant industry. This industry includes a wide cross area of the part exercises which incorporates the arrangement of the transportation, settlement, diversion, food, and the related administrations .Tourism alludes to the arrangement of the transportation, convenience, amusement, food, and the related administrations both for the household and the abroad voyagers. It includes going for all reasons, including recreational and business. Accommodation and the travel industry are positively two of the most broadly utilized words in the fields of lodgings, cafés, travel, and related regions. Relaxation is a segment that is developing quickly, with the ordinary shows and occasions facilitated normally. Relaxation is perceived as the basic factor which adds to the interest for the travel industry and entertainment.( Kotler, Keller, 2006). Recreation is a significant factor which adds to flexibly. It is consequently the expectation of recreation which is the operational interest factor, while the utilization of relaxation is a factor of gracefully. The Leisure time is the major asset that is input and expended in the travel industry, Leisure and Hospitality industry. The recreation/amusement occasions have made work for a huge number of individuals in a differing scope of jobs. This is a multidimensional division which gives an assortment of administrations in the territories that incorporate the corporate occasions, for example, the item dispatches, public interviews, corporate gatherings and the meetings, the promoting programs; street appears and the amazing opening occa sions i.e extraordinary corporate accommodation occasions like the shows, grant functions, film debuts, dispatch/discharge parties, the design appears, business occasions, private occasions, for example, the weddings and different gatherings. The business additionally incorporates fields, for example, the shows, gatherings and the courses just as the unrecorded music and the games. This exploration paper investigates and connects the travel industry, recreation and Hospitality industry through the arrangement of the imaginative, specialized and the calculated bits of knowledge. Procedure This examination utilized an electronic overview in social event information on the modern investigation. I broke down a few hypotheses that go about as the vital devices for investigation. The instrument was separated into two sections; The Descriptive Analysis, which depicts the travel industry, Leisure and Hospitality modern examination basing on Porters model of investigation. The Critical Analysis, which evaluates the degree to which different elements recognized by Porter impact the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality industry. The settings for the examination depended on the particular idea of the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality industry. Data was gathered during the time spent assessment of the impacts of the principal factors that decide the productivity: Industry structure, that decides the gainfulness of the normal contender and manageable upper hand that permits a firm to outflank the normal contender (Porter, 1979). Investigation of chose industry This paper analyzes the five powers which sway intensity inside and accordingly the productivity of a rival in the Tourism, Leisure and the Hospitality business. From the direction gave in the Five Factor Model suggestions are made to improve and refine this industry. Watchmen Five Factor Model The five powers that sway on the intensity which are illustrated in the Porters 1980 work are: the hindrances to passage, danger of substitutes, the bartering intensity of the purchasers and dealers, and the contention among existing contenders. In thinking about these components considering the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality industry, the hypothesis gives the best way to examination. As indicated by Porter every one of the above variables has a distinction in importance or effects diversely on the organizations so they are introduced underneath arranged by sway. Watchman (1980) showed that the most significant determinant of a commercial centers benefit potential is the inherent intensity of the purchasers and the merchants. Danger of Substitute Goods In the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality industry there is normally higher opportunities to begin another business and progress effectively. The organizations show up in all value ranges, with varieties in the degrees of administration and the civilities. The steady test will consistently be to get the clients to pick your administrations over the contender. With the mechanical headways the web makes the general market to be increasingly effective while extending the size of the potential market and making the new replacement dangers. Given the intensity of this industry a great key arrangement is essential. The danger is that another firm chain may disintegrate the client base with a recently planned web approach or the promoting effort. As per Porter the improvement of a worth chain process investigation, bolstered by the community occasion the executives, the organizing and sharing of the client centered worth chain information, intensely upgrades the presentation of the worth chains and of the electronic business. Haggling Power of Buyers Business people picking a firm for business in the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality industry are the shrewd buyers and they are at standard with the adjustments in the capacity of their purchasers. It has gotten basic for the purchasers to go on the web and study on the best firm that offers incredible administrations. They no longer need the help from the trip specialists, the corporate travel experts or the center men of any sort to figure out where they will get their administrations. Doormen model predicts the capacity of the purchasers dealing capacity to end the middle people. The Tourists who are the significant customers in the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality industry are increasingly more equipped for utilizing the mechanical headways in the methods for correspondence, for example, the web to build their dealing power along these lines making the satisfaction of Porters model. Because of the expanded bartering intensity of the customers, they are discovering web organizations sites which will arrange or find the can foresee them. These procedures moves the dealing capacity to the end client as it had been anticipated by the Porter model and these purchaser opportunity diminishes the expense of exchanging so the faithfulness to a solitary firm is a relic of days gone by except if the specific firm uses its one time opportunity when the client adheres to the firm it profoundly dazzle different clients with a one of a kind and important differentiator. The Rivalry among existing contenders The contention among the rivals in the Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality industry is furious. At the point when the potential clients find out about a lodging on line, the web decreases the distinctions among the contenders. Agents will in general look for the best costs for the best understanding and the propensity is to decrease the costs to a serious level. This industry covers wide zone so the market is augmented which builds the quantity of the contenders. For instance, somebody who needs to go through the day in the memorable site can without much of a stretch pick a traveler firm in the close by town if the luxuries or the costs are low. Development law - Essay Example 2. This paper will investigate the incentive for cash conveyed by PFI techniques so as to decide whether PFI is ideal in contrast with open financing. Rundown of PFI 3. The PFI strategy depends on conveying framework and/or administrations for the overall population through the usage of private assets and assets. The arrangement is kept in line utilizing open segment determinations so the open area can be viewed as applying sizable effect on the general procedure. Commonly the private sector’s contribution is generally coordinated to money related help for open ventures according to the PFI approach. In any case, the private area can likewise be associated with the activity and upkeep of administrations that may have been constructed utilizing PFI or different past methods3. The fundamental dispute behind PFI is to permit the private part more noteworthy contribution in broad daylight spending ventures so the weight on the open area is facilitated. In addition, the association of the private area guarantees that open part extends are sufficiently serious while conveying ideal incentive for cash merchandise and enterprises. Favorable circumstances and Disadvantages of PFI Successful PFI Implementations 4. Promoters of PFI contend that activities actualized under the PFI game plan show more noteworthy guarantee than customarily open division subsidized tasks. Research shows that ordinary open foundation arrangement plans gave on schedule and on spending ventures around 30% and 27% separately. Conversely, PFI game plans gave an expansion of 76% and 78% for on schedule and on spending venture handovers4. These measurements plainly feature that PFI has the ability to convey better both as far as spending fluctuations and calendar differences. The characteristic idea of the private division makes it serious since the open area has almost no other rivalry for framework and administration conveyance. It is frequently regular that the open part will in general ob serve negative financial plan and negative calendar fluctuations on ventures since no different benchmarks are conceivable. In any case, the private segment flourishes with rivalry and raising negative budgetary and negative booking differences demonstrate a bombing business technique. The need to stay applicable to the market guarantees that private organizations are progressively effective regarding asset and time usage when contrasted with the open segment. 5. Correspondingly, other examination into PFI courses of action demonstrated that upgraded bargains were accomplished for each situation contemplated. Additionally, look into discoveries demonstrated that esteem for cash in PFI ventures was accomplished 80% of the time5. Another striking part of PFI activities is the reduction in costs since private financers are searching for approaches to decrease costs. Research shows that open framework arrangement becomes somewhere in the range of 7% and 23% less expensive when PFI techn iques are applied6. Other research put cost decrease at 11%7. It could be contemplated that less expensive framework and administration arrangement would prompt a lower quality. In any case, it must be noted from the exploration over that esteem for cash is accomplished in 80% of PFI ventures which will in general scatter this technique for thinking. 6. Pundits of the PFI approach battle that private inclusion will in general make foundation and administration arrangement too serious with the end goal that esteem expansion is limited. Be that as it may, such cases hold little ground in light

2019 Early Action Details - UGA Undergraduate Admissions

2019 Early Action Details - UGA Undergraduate Admissions 2019 Early Action Details As we stated earlier this month, UGA is planning on releasing the EA decisions on the Status page on Friday, November 16 in the late afternoon unless some serious problem arises, which I do not expect. If this changes, we will let you know, but this is the plan at this time. Please do not call/email/text/message/tweet asking for the exact time of late afternoon, as I cannot give an exact time. We will post a message here when it opens up. We are excited about this, and I am guessing you are as well, and hopefully it will allow for a little less nerve-wracking Thanksgiving break for some of you. I will also have an updated post on Friday with data on the applicant pool and mid-range data on the admitted group. In addition to the decisions being available on the Status page, letters will go out in the mail for Accepted students. Freshman denial letters will not be mailed out, as almost all applicants see their decisions online, and we, along with a number of colleges, did not want to have a letter that only served to reinforce the negative feelings they might already have. Here are a few suggestions on how to react to the four different decisions: Admit: Celebrate with family, buy a lot of UGA gear to wear for the Thanksgiving break, but remember that not everyone has received a decision of admission, and so be a little more low key with friends and classmates. In other words, do not run up to you best friend during English class and scream I got into Georgia while 10-15 of your classmates are mentally creating new and painful ways for you to meet your doom. In addition, be patient with the other parts of campus (commitment deposit, housing, the UGA myID system, etc.), as they might need a few days to take in your information. Remember, it takes a little while for information to flow to other offices. Read the materials we give you online and in an acceptance packet as it will instruct you on what to do next. Defer: This is the most challenging one, as these are applicants who are truly strong students, but we want to see more about them, as well as the rest of the applicant pool, before making a final decision. Please remember, this is not a denial at all, but instead a way for us to be able to review you in full, from your co-curricular activities, your essays, and your recommendations. We were only able to review a small subset of applicants in our holistic review in EA, as 17,000 applicants is a lot of stuff to get through. As I usually state, defer is not a four letter word (even though you might feel this way), only a delay in an admission decision. This is the time in which we are able to look at your overall application, as we have time to do holistic reads from December through mid-March. While this is probably not the answer you would like, I would suggest you treat it as a call-back for a second audition. Some roles have already been cast (or admitted), and we now want to look a t you in more detail to see how you compare to the rest of the people auditioning (or applying). One of the worst things is to call us up and berate us for not admitting you. We will be happy to talk to people, but make sure to communicate in a positive tone, understand that we cannot talk about other applicants, and again please remember that defer does not mean denial. One step you can take is to make sure we have received a recommendation from a teacher in an academic area (it is optional but we suggest having one sent in). A second step is to give us any updates through an update form you will see on your status page. This could be fall grades (when you know them), a new activity, job or leadership role, or anything you want to add to your file. Remember, UGA is in no way done with the overall freshman admission process. We still have a long way to go, with a great deal of files to read and admission offers to make, so just be patient. Deny: While this is not a fun situation at all, the reality is that if you have been denied Early Action, you are truly not competitive for admission at UGA as compared to the rest of the applicant pool. It is not easy to write that, and it is very difficult to tell this to a student or parent, but when we look at this students application in comparison with the other 17,000 EA applicants (and remember, we expect to get over 10,000 RD applicants as well), they do not match up academically with the others. It is better to tell you now instead of waiting until late March, as this gives you time to make other plans. Unless there seems to be a serious error (you are in the top of your class, take a very challenging course load, and have a strong test score), my suggestion is to not contact us about the decision, but instead move forward with plan B. While we do not mind talking with you at all, the reality is that an Early Action denial means that the admission to UGA is not possible as a freshman. Incomplete: For the small number of students who did not complete your EA file, you are now automatically deferred to the next step, and so you will need to get in the missing materials from EA, (remember the teacher recommendation is optional but we suggest also having one sent in). We went three plus weeks beyond the deadline allowing you to get in the missing documents, sending reminder emails, indicating what was missing through the Status page, and it was your responsibility to get in the required materials. So I do not suggest contacting us to see if we can take items late, as that time has passed. Focus instead on sending in what is needed to be reviewed in the next round. Go Dawgs!

When College Applications Attack

Aroundthe first of October, I came to be in possession of a certain very importantform. The instructions were quite explicit and printed in big, bold letters:"Please provide this page to a teacher. Include a stamped envelope addressedto the college."All right, I thought. This teacher recommendationstuff isn't too hard.My eyes then turned to another form in the packet, where I was to sign my name. The instructions again were quite explicit andprinted in big, bold letters: "Place this form, your essay, and your teacherrecommendations into the provided envelope."That was when, being thecalm, rational person I am, I threw the whole mess into the fireplace and watchedwith great glee as it went back to the fiery inferno from which it - and allcollege applications - are undoubtedly spawned.Well, maybe not, but thatdoesn't mean I didn't consider it. In the few months I've been working on this,I've learned that college applications were created for the sole purpose oftesting and tormenting hig h school seniors. I mean, half the stuff they ask theycan't really care about. Why should a school in Pennsylvania care where yourparents went to college or, as one form asked, what your blood type is? (I guessI should have known better than to apply to Transylvania University.)Ifyou ask me, there is only one logical explanation: it's all a conspiracy.Colleges, especially small ones, have too many qualified applicants, so theycreate an application that only one in 100 will fill out correctly. The smallerthe school, the more dastardly the application. Fill in "United States"under county? You're gone. Forgot to dot an i so it comes out looking like an l?Too bad. And God forbid you write in blue pen instead of black. Even ifthe applications weren't designed to be used as entrance exams, there's nodenying they are. An underpaid, overworked employee of the school isn't going towaste time trying to decipher mistakes. Plus, as far as he or she is concerned, your failure to follow instruct ions doesn't say much for you. This is one casewhere it pays to be just a little bit more careful with reading directions andwriting neatly, something which I, unfortunately, did not do the first timearound. This resulted in much pain and gnashing of teeth, and is not anexperience I would wish on my worst enemy.Right now, I am in the midst ofwriting eight college essays for the four schools to which I am applying.Naturally, only one accepts the Common Application, so no luck there. Oddlyenough, half the essay topics assume that I've already been to college, graduated, and am preparing to return for my 25th class reunion. Case in point:"How will the (insert creative name here) program affect the way you liveyour life after college?" Let me just check my crystal ball ... Butit's as I'm writing the essays that I begin to realize who the true victims are:the people who have to read all this. I don't know who they angered in a formerlife, but to be reincarnated (if you believe in that sor t of thing) as thescholarly equivalent of a dung beetle had to take some doing. Their agony is madeworse by the topics colleges present students, which undoubtedly give birth tosome of the most woefully lifeless essays in the history of humanity (though I'msure my "Meditations on the Life of a Grapefruit" piece was a realcrowd-pleaser). It's amazing that anyone could stand to wade through these;personally, after reading a page-long dissertation on a trip to Wal-Mart, I'd beready to immolate the author with a rusty spork. On the other hand, it allows thecollege to easily differentiate the really good writers from the not-so-goodones: if the essay reader is not curled up in a fetal position by the lastsentence, then there's hope for a student yet.So, all things considered,I guess my life could be worse: I could be on the receiving end of one of myessays. So as I sit here, tearing recommendation forms in half (one piece to mailto the college myself, the other for the teacher to mail), I'll remember: Life'sall about keeping things in perspective. Now if you'll excuse me, I've gota sporking to attend ... and I'm the guest of honor.

Foreign Policy of the U.S. Government

A nation’s foreign policy is a set of strategies for dealing effectively with issues arising with other nations. Typically developed and pursued by the nation’s central government, foreign policy is ideally crafted to help achieve national goals and objectives, including peace and economic stability. Foreign policy is considered the opposite of domestic policy, the ways in which nations deal with issues within their own borders. Foreign Policy Key Takeaways The term â€Å"foreign policy† refers to a national government’s combined strategies for effectively managing its relationships with other nations. Foreign policy is the functional opposite of â€Å"domestic policy,† the ways in which a nation manages matters occurring within its own borders. The long-term goals of the United States’ foreign are peace and economic stability. In the United States, the Department of State, with the consultation and approval of the President of the United States and Congress, plays the lead role in the development and implementation of U.S. foreign policy.   Basic U.S. Foreign Policy As a key issue in the nation’s past, present, and future, United States foreign policy is truly a cooperative effort of both the executive and legislative branches of the federal government. The Department of State leads the overall development and supervision of U.S. foreign policy. Along with its many U.S. embassies and missions in countries worldwide, the Department of State works to apply its Foreign Policy Agenda â€Å"to build and sustain a more democratic, secure, and prosperous world for the benefit of the American people and the international community.† Especially since the end of World War II, other executive branch departments and agencies have started working along with the Department of State to address specific foreign policy issues such as counterterrorism, cybersecurity, climate and environment, human trafficking, and women’s issues. Foreign Policy Concern In addition, the House of Representatives’ Committee on Foreign Affairs lists the following areas of foreign policy concern: â€Å"export controls, including nonproliferation of nuclear technology and nuclear hardware; measures to foster commercial interaction with foreign nations and to safeguard American business abroad; international commodity agreements; international education; and protection of American citizens abroad and expatriation.† While the worldwide influence of the United States remains strong, it is declining in the area of economic output as the wealth and prosperity of nations like China, India, Russia, Brazil, and consolidated nations of the European Union has increased. Many foreign policy analysts suggest that the most pressing problems facing U.S. foreign policy today include issues such as terrorism, climate change, and the growth in the number of nations possessing nuclear weapons. What About U.S. Foreign Aid? U.S. aid to foreign countries, often the source of criticism and praise, is administered by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Responding to the importance of developing and maintaining stable, sustainable democratic societies worldwide, USAID peruses a primary goal of ending extreme poverty in countries with average daily individual personal incomes of $1.90 or less. While foreign aid represents less than 1% of the annual U.S. federal budget, the expenditure of about $23 billion a year is often criticized by policymakers who argue the money would be better spent on U.S. domestic needs. However, when he argued for passage of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, President John F. Kennedy summed up the importance of foreign aid as follows: â€Å"There is no escaping our obligations—our moral obligations as a wise leader and good neighbor in the interdependent community of free nations—our economic obligations as the wealthiest people in a world of largely poor people, as a nation no longer dependent upon the loans from abroad that once helped us develop our own economy and our political obligations as the single largest counter to the adversaries of freedom.† Other Players in U.S. Foreign Policy While the Department of State is mainly responsible for implementing it, a great deal of U.S. foreign policy is developed by the President of the United States along with presidential advisers and Cabinet members. The President of the United States, as the Commander in Chief, exercises broad powers over the deployment and activities of all U.S. armed forces in foreign nations. While only Congress can declare war, presidents empowered by legislation such as the War Powers Resolution of 1973 and the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists Act of 2001, have often sent U.S. troops into combat on foreign soil without a congressional declaration of war. Clearly, the ever-changing threat of simultaneous terrorist attacks by multiple poorly defined enemies on multiple fronts has necessitated a more rapid military response that allowed by the legislative process. The Role of Congress in Foreign Policy Congress also plays an important role in U.S foreign policy. The Senate consults on the creation of most treaties and trade agreements and must approve all treaties and cancellation of treaties by a two-thirds supermajority vote. In addition, two important congressional committees, the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, must approve and may append all legislation dealing with foreign affairs. Other congressional committees may also deal with foreign relations matters and Congress has established numerous temporary committees and sub-committees to study special issues and matters relating to U.S. foreign affairs. Congress also has significant power to regulate U.S. commerce and trade with foreign nations. The United States Secretary of State serves as the foreign minister of the United States and is in charge of conducting nation-to-nation diplomacy. The Secretary of State also has wide responsibility for the operations and security of the nearly 300 U.S. embassies, consulates, and diplomatic missions around the world. Both the Secretary of State and all U.S. ambassadors are appointed by the president and must be approved by the Senate.   Sources and Further Reference â€Å"Foreign Relations of the United States.† U.S. Department of State Archives.â€Å"Milestones in the History of U.S. Foreign Relations.† U.S. Department of State Office of the Historian.US Foreign Aid by Country - Foreign Aid Explorer. Primary Source Analysis on The Feminine Mystique

Potter 1 Rebecca Potter Gray Section 4975 12 May 2015 Primary Source Analysis on The Feminine Mystique The Feminine Mystique is the title of a book written by Betty Friedan who has also founded The National Organization for Women (NOW) to help US women gain equal rights. She describes the Feminine Mystique as the heightened awareness of the expectations of women and how each woman has to fit a certain role as a little girl, an uneducated and unemployed teenager, and finally as a wife and mother who is happy to clean the house and cook things all day. After World War II, a lot of womens organizations began to appear with the goal of bringing the issues of equal rights into the limelight. The Feminine Mystique also seems to come†¦show more content†¦Friedan also notes that this is helped along by the fact that many of the women who work during the war filling jobs previously filled by men faced dismissal, discrimination, or hostility when the men returned, and that educators blame over-educated, career-focused mothers for the m aladjustment of soldiers in World War II. Yet as Friedan shows, later studies find that overbearing mothers, not careerists, are the ones who raised maladjusted children. It is interesting to apply the notion of the feminine mystique to modern culture and see that it often still exists. Though there are many women who are getting jobs, there are still a lot of families that fit the mold of the traditional family with the breadwinner and the bread baker with bunch of kids running around. Some counterarguments that could be made against The Feminine Mystique are that it focuses on what was not a universal female problem but rather a problem endured only by white, upper- and middle-class mothers and wives. Friedans phrase, the problem that has no name,†(15) could actually refer to the plight of a select group of college-educated, middle- and upper-class, married white women or housewives bored with leisure, with the home, with children, with buying products, who want more out of life. How to Make Powdered Olive Oil

Molecular gastronomy applies science to put a modern spin on traditional foods. For this simple recipe, combine maltodextrin powder with olive oil or any other flavorful oil or melted fat to make a powdered oil. Maltodextrin is a carbohydrate powder derived from starch that dissolves the instant it hits your mouth. It melts away, with no gritty or powdery sensation, so you taste the oil. Ingredients maltodextrinolive oil Food-grade maltodextrin is sold under many names, including  N-Zorbit M, Tapioca Maltodextrin, Maltosec, and Malto. While tapioca maltodextrin is one of the common types, the polysaccharide is made from other starches, such as corn starch, potato starch, or wheat starch. Use any flavorful oil. Good choices are olive oil, peanut oil, and sesame oil.  You can season the oil or use flavored rendered  fat, such as from bacon or sausage. One way to season the oil is to heat it in a pan with seasonings, such as garlic and spices.  Expect deeply colored oils to color the resulting powder.  Another option is to combine maltodextrin  with other fatty products, such as peanut butter. The only rule is to mix it with a lipid, not water or a high-moisture ingredient. Make Olive Oil Powder This is extremely simple. Essentially all you do is whisk together maltodextrin and oil or combine them in a food processor. If you dont have a whisk, you can use a fork or spoon. For a powder, youll want about 45-65% powder (by weight), so a good starting point (if you dont want to measure) is to go half and half with the oil and maltodextrin. Another method is to slowly stir oil into the powder, stopping when you have reached your desired consistency.  If you do want to measure ingredients, here is a simple recipe: 4 grams powdered maltodextrin10 grams extra virgin olive oil For a fine powder, you can use a sifter or push the powder through a strainer.  You can plate the powdered olive oil by serving it in a decorative spoon or topping dry foods, such as crackers. Dont put the powder in contact with a water-containing ingredient or it will liquefy. Storing Oil Powder The powder should be good about a day at room temperature or several days, sealed and refrigerated. Be sure to keep the powder away from moisture or high humidity. Powdered Alcohol Aside from offering the possibility to serve familiar food in new ways, one big advantage of using the dextrin is that it lets you turn a liquid into a solid. A similar process is used to make powdered alcohol. The difference is the chemical  used. Powdered alcohol is made by combining alcohol with cyclodextrin rather than maltodextrin. Cyclodextrin can be combined with up to 60% alcohol. If you want to make powdered alcohol yourself, keep in mind you need to use pure alcohol, not an aqueous solution. Cyclodextrin, like maltodextrin, readily dissolves in water.  Another use of cyclodextrin is as an odor-absorber. It is the active ingredient in Febreze.

Censorship in Television and Movies How It Has Changed Throughout the Years free essay sample

This project will describe the past television shows and major movie productions’ use of nudity, profanity, and violence and what they did to protect censorship in our homes. This project will show that in our new day and age censorship is being pushed to the limit, the children of our nation will hear and see violence, profanity, and nudity through their lifetimes. Information for this project was secured from various sources such as, books, internet websites, and government documents. Also, included with the project will be interview from various adults, seniors, and children so that they can explain their view on censorship. This project intends to demonstrate that even though you trust you children to watch appropriate show we can’t help what comes on every channel. 4 4 The main purpose of this report is to learn and educate people of censorship over the years. Censorship is â€Å"the suppression of speech or other public communication which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, or inconvenient as determined by a government, media outlet, or other controlling body†. We will write a custom essay sample on Censorship in Television and Movies: How It Has Changed Throughout the Years or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Many factors have influenced me and my partner to do our project on how censorship in American television, media, and films has changed over the years. Most of these influences come from lessons in our English I class about The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and many other classic novels that have been changed and modified over the years. However, we found more of an interest in censorship on television, being that there is much more profanity on television than books. In this research, a few questions that were very important for us were, â€Å"Has censorship gotten stricter over the years, or less of a worry† and â€Å"How have people reacted to censorship over the years†. We found that in the past, women and society were very modest and it was very negative to speak harshly on television. Over the years, very foul words and actions have progressed to become tossed around and taken more lightly in America, such as in the popular antique television show â€Å"I Love Lucy†, the main character Lucy found out that she was expecting a baby with her husband. The television producers would not allow her to use the word â€Å"pregnant† on the screen. One of the main influences of foul language television is the channel MTV. MTV was largely debated over because of its inappropriate music videos and shows, which were accused of Satanism by many. The article on Wikipedia also states that MTV was criticized for being too â€Å"politically correct†. Many shows and movies these days are poorly censored, mostly sitcoms. The way most people with children react to poorly censored movies and shows in negative, because they don’t want their children being exposed to that. On the other hand, majority of young adults that don’t have any children find these shows and movies amusing.

Reflective of Romantic Ideologies free essay sample

â€Å"This Lime-tree bower my prison† is one of the most quoted examples of romanticism. Throughout the three stanzas, many romantic ideologies can be identified including aspects such as the romantic’s view towards nature, the power of the imagination and the emphasis on the individual. Romanticism emerged against a time of increased urbanisation and industrialisation, where people sought instead an immersion in nature instead. Coleridge’s poem exemplifies many of the feelings which the contemporaries of the time had towards nature, including impressions of its richness, its superiority to the city and the power of the divine reflected in nature. The countryside (nature) is portrayed as more valuable than the city, with Coleridge claiming that Charles â€Å"hunger’d after Nature, many a year, in the great City pent†, comparing the city to a prison, whilst nature is something to be desired. Using colourful descriptions such as â€Å"and that walnut-tree was richly ting’d† and â€Å"ye purple heath flowers†, Coleridge stimulates the richness and beauty of nature in the reader’s mind. Nature is given a sense of grandeur, vibrancy and vitality, reflecting the elevation of nature common to the time, with even the simple rook becoming a thing of momentary glory as it â€Å"cross’d the mighty Orb’s dilated glory†. Unlike in the Augustan age, where nature existed as something to be tamed by mankind, here nature exists in its own right. In fact, it is even seen to be raised up to a religious level, with Coleridge using the vocative terms â€Å"thou† and â€Å"ye† in reference to the Sun and clouds, essentially lifting them to the level of a deity. Hence they are able to partake in the majesty of God. The Romantics also believed that as nature reflected the divine, they were able to gain a better understanding of God and themselves from it in the form of epiphanies. As Constable says, the sky was â€Å"the organ of the sentiment†. Coleridge reflects this ideology in his own personal epiphany included in the poem, that sometimes one must â€Å"be bereft of promis’d good, that we may lift the soul, and contemplate with lively joy the joys we cannot share† and that â€Å"Nature ne’er deserts the wise and pure. † Through the power of nature, his own feelings and perceptions are gradually altered, with the changes in nature mirroring his inner changes. As the stanzas progress, he is less sorrowful for his situation and more appreciative. In the same way the colours of nature turn from â€Å"poor yellow leaves† to â€Å"broad and sunny leaf†, reflecting the power of nature in his transformation. Also reflective of this is the way the lime-tree bower turns from being a prison, into â€Å"this little lime-tree bower† with â€Å"transparent foliage. † In this way, nature is shown to echo his own experience, through the up and down notion of the poem, where the dell represents his frustrations and wistful longing before he comes up into the ‘wide wide heaven,’ signifying his newfound freedom and finally the serenity of nature shows his reflection. The romantic ideology of the role which the imagination plays in life also comes into play during this poem. Like nature, the imagination can also be used as a tool to foster a greater understanding of things and to transform one’s emotional state, yet it can also be used as a method of escapism from the present situation. Coleridge has said that it is the â€Å"visionary faculty that enables spiritual insight into the ultimate truth† and that it is the â€Å"prime agent of all human perception†. The romantics believed that the imagination held the power to reveal those things which we cannot ordinarily see with our rational minds. In â€Å"this lime-tree bower my prison† this takes place in the way his imaginative journey ultimately leads to a greater understanding of God and its power to change his perceptions about himself and his situation. It is through his imagination that his emotional state is transformed and he ultimately gains an intellectual and emotional release. This transformative power of imagination is similar to that of nature, being reflected in the evocative descriptions which appeal to the senses. After travelling on his imaginative journey, Coleridge is led to a change of feeling about the bower which ceases to be a prison and instead becomes a thing of comfort. It was his own mental processes which shaped it into a prison and it is through his imagination that he can escape this prison. Thus imagination is also presented as a form of escape the poet seeks, with the ability to transcend physical and psychological barriers, although he retains awareness that this is simply his imagination by words such as â€Å"perchance. † Lastly, Coleridge’s poem is reflective of the focus on the individual in omantic literature, where they are a solitary reflective figure as opposed to works focusing on the individual in society. Coleridge stresses the individual through writing in first person and interjecting many â€Å"I† phrases. The antithesis in the first line between â€Å"they are gone† and â€Å"here must I remain† firmly brings the attention to t he individual in the poem, focusing on this solitary figure and his feelings. The conversational style of the poem also helps by reproducing natural speech, giving the feeling of his own train of thought, coming naturally. In fact, the whole poem encapsulates this focus on the individual, with the structure mirroring his meditation, contemplating a problem and finding a solution to it. The form and structure of the poem is shaped around his thoughts and even the landscape reflects these through things such as the transformation in his descriptions of colour. The poem focuses on the individual’s perception of things and how these perceptions change over the course of time through things such as nature and the imagination. Thus, Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem, â€Å"This Lime-tree bower my prison† exemplifies many ideologies of Romanticism. The richness of nature and its divine role are explored through descriptive imagery, whilst the power of imagination is expressed as a means of learning and escape. Throughout all of this, the focus remains centred on the individual and the effects upon Coleridge himself, reflecting the Romantic ideology of the individual in itself, not in society.

American Political system

Not to long ago the American Political system under went a major transition. One of the many controversies that are still shadowing this transition is the acts or misacts of the former President. Just recently he announced that he had chosen a location in Harlem to be used as his post-presidential office. Most people reacted to this decision by saying hes deceiving African-Americans in Harlem to cover up his burdens when he left the White House... the pardons or the gifts that were taken from Whitehouse. The article I will be analyzing is by Jay Nordlinger about the recent move to Harlem by Ex-President Clinton. Nordlinger is an editor for the National Review whos been covering the Clintons for a couple of years. Published by The Weekly Standard: a very conservative magazine, Nordlinger tries to explain the recent move as an attempt to put out the fire that have erupted the Clintons since leaving the White House. From what I perceived reading this article the main issue Nordlings is trying to prove is that whether our former president is using African-Americans to talk to White people? Meaning does Clinton do what he does because he wants to help the African-American society or just to improve Americans impression about him? Nordlinger undoubtedly states that the ex-president misleads the African-American society and he does everything for a purpose: to get out the many controversies that follow him day to day. He says Clinton does it over and over: runs to black people when he gets into a jam. According to Nordlinger the former President knows his relationship with black people is terrific, so he has a habit of using black people as props. The article even relates Clintons with Fidel Castro. Sometime in 1960 Fidel Castro publicly changed his expensive midtown hotel a hotel in Harlem to show commonality with the people there. So when Castro came back to New York for the U.N. gathering he was ...

Research Paper Example Some of the current issues facing Iran both locally and internationally are clearly outlined. The pressures facing the country as it seeks part and belonging to a global community are also included. Furthermore, this paper aims to research and examine the Iranian history of the 20th century identifying the major events during that period that may have a direct impact on its development. Reviewing the current economic system and how it reflects the country’s history and culture. While civilization in Iran dates back to 2800 BC, the Persian Empire peaked during the sixth century under the rule of Cyrus the Great. Two centuries later, the Greeks, led by Alexander the Great, overcome the Persians leading to the emergence of western thought over the east. Persians were converted to Islam in the seventh century AD (Eldon & Hooglund, 2008). More than 800 years later, the Safavid dynasty embraced the Shia branch of Islam causing a lasting rift with the majority Sunnis. Different forces struggled for power over the course of the next centuries. By the turn of the new century, Iran was embroiled in a bifurcated struggle. On one hand, the Iranians struggle to maintain their national independence in the face of growing colonial pressures. Iran’s geostrategic importance made it a central focus of the colonial game between Great Britain and Russia. The country was carved up into spheres of influence. The Russians had supremacy over the north, while Britain had su premacy in the South of the country. At the same time, another struggle was taking shape within its borders. The country was undergoing a constitutional revolution (1905-1911). The revolution started by disputes over sugar prices finally led to public protests of the revolution. By January 1906, the Shah agreed to their demands that included the formation of the house of justice. Despite this development. The Shah did not honor

Unilateral Contract: â€Å"Unilateral contract† according to legal-dictionary, â€Å"is a contract in which only one party makes an express promise, or undertakes a performance without first securing a reciprocal agreement from the other party.† (Quoted in http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/unilateral+contract) The same is applied in the case under study, where the London Theatre has made an express promise without first securing a reciprocal agreement from the public and masses. Helena has tried to enter into the contract with the theatre according to the terms and conditions described in the advertisement made by the theatre. In addition, Helena has made her performance in a prescribed mode as well as within the time period determined by the theatre. Jesus Rejected At Nazareth Theology Religion Essay

Jesus Rejected At Nazareth Theology Religion Essay 54  Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue,  and they were amazed.Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers. they asked.  55  Isnt this the carpenters son?  Isnt his mothers  name Mary, and arent his brothers  James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?  56  Arent all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?57  And they took offense  at him. But Jesus said to them,  Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor.  58  And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith. Introduction: The aforementioned verses are from Matthew of New Testament and the authorship of the book weather it was written by Mathew himself or not is in question itself. Matthew was tax collector in his early life. Harrington(1991, pp.8) mentions though this Gospel is called anonymous but we still can find the evangelist and his community to be from Jewish background. In the above given verses, it talks about Jesus being rejected at his home town when he returns from his ministry. If we follow the accounts in synoptic gospels, Jesus rejection has been mentioned in Mark 6:1-6, Matthew 13:54-58 and Luke 4:16-30.France (2007, pp.20) states that it was widely accepted Matthew was first Gospel until middle of nineteenth century and for more than a century it was considered Mark as first and Matthew and Luke drew on Mark, along they had access to some source called as Q. The incident takes place in Nazareth. The verses includes Jesus and the people of Nazareth as parties of communication. Before rejection story Matthew mentions about Jesus using parable to teach his disciples. The above passage are full of implications, people were in tolerant of his visit due to his ministry at the place. He is pointed not as a messiah rather as a common labor, they were not ready to accept him anything else than a common carpenters son. Mathew 58 sums up he did not performed many mighty works because of their unbelief. Whereas Mark 5 says he could not do many might works but heal some people there. Both agree that Jesus did performed some miracles in his hometown. Mathew put it as Jesus did not performed much miracles because of their unbelief irrespective of what they saw. it is not that he could not rather limited himself because of their unbelief. Body: In this part we try to scrutinize the rejection from different perspective. This is a unique pericope where Jesus does not stand as a central theme rather other characters are dominant in the story . View of pericope through Mark : Mark talks about parables in 4:1-34 and the rejection story in 6:1-6, but the middele of those two incident are filled with Jesus miracles ,Jesus calms the storm (Mark 4:35-41), restoring Demon-possessed man (Mark5:1-20) and raising a dead girl and healing a sick woman (Mark 5:21-43).As Rudolf Schnackenberg, In Mark 6:1-6, Jesus rejection in Nazareth is recorded by way of intentional contrast with his cures in Mark 5. In Mark the rejection story starts after Jesus healed the lady and little child (Mark 5:21-42). So through this verse Mark tells us Jesus can do miracle and had worked. But when he visits Nazareth, the people there cannot accept the wisdom and miracles of Jesus with the ordinary Jesus they knew as. So Marks writes about Jesus not being able to do much miracles. Mark here tries to show the emphasis on importance of relationship between faith and miracles View of pericope through Matthew .Whereas Matthew talks less about miracles. There are no supporting miracles ahead of these above verses. In Mark, the people ask about numerous question at a time about wisdom, origin and miracles as they cannot relate this with common man. While we go through Matthew we come to the verses appear after parable discourse. Also it focuses on teaching of Jesus rather than miracles. Here Matthew tries to show Jesus himself chooses not to show miracles to people because of their unbelief. 54: When he visits Nazareth he teaches people in synagogue and gives them messages of God when he delivers it people are taken in surprise but they lacks the faith to believe it was Jesus who did it. Nazarens asks. Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous power? Here we can read people knew what Jesus was saying is wise and he had miraculous power but they can only remember him being carpenters son. 55-56: The mention of Jesus family and its members is to disrespect or to show that he was from socially lower origin. And when the verses it to complete Matthew states, Where then did this person get all this? (which we cannot read in Mark). 57: 58: Matthew focuses on unbelief of people of Nazarens for less miracles of Jesus whereas Mark only concerns about Jesus lack of miracles. Conclusion: Unbelief is negative attitude and it is always disheartening. Jesus after his long ministry out of his hometown comes back to home with remembrances of friends and family. But his town mates at Nazareth refuses to acknowledge his wisdom, his teaching and his mission as they identified Jesus with his ordinary childhood. When Jesus limits himself with miracles its not because he could not rather it was his will. Now we can see the significance of the whole story. It is narrated as a rejection story in midst of miracles and wisdom. But the vitality of the story lies in part of Jesus and his reaction to whole rejection. Matthew convinces us that despite what Jesus has to hear from his hometown folks he stands strong and confronts the rejection. He wins a battle of rejection with a rejection to show many of his mighty deeds. He does so because he Jesus knew its not worth to change unbelief through miracles. This pericope on the rejection of Jesus at Nazareth is followed by rejection and death of John. Immediately after rejection by his people, Matthew tells us about death of John in Matthew 14:6-10, here we can also see how the teaching of Jesus have been rejected by a ruler of his home town.
